Dotty was going through a complete branding overhaul, as they would like to position themselves as a fresh, fun and friendly brand, with a little touch of crazy. To unveil this new era of the brand, I've propposed to the Marketing department an ambitious idea: To develop and launch a brand mascot, embodying all of the new personality directions the brand was taking, and present him and the rebrand to the world with a short, fully animated video.
This is how Dotty was born: The crazy, friendly and round mascot for Dotty Bingo. I've developed the character visual identity with simplicity in mind. Both due to the fact that as the name suggests, he's a simple dot, and to ensure it would be possible to animate the character for a full 30 second launch video, and translate him later to different usages within the digital marketing campaigns and the brand website, while having an incredibly tight deadline of 1 week.
The base script was developed together with the Marketing Department and sent to a voice over artist, while juggling between Illustrator and After Effects, I was working on all the scenarios, character poses and animations for the video. After some rounds of feedback and changes, video and audio editing, and even a cameo voice appearance from yours trully (can you spot it?), the project came to life, and the video campaign exceeded the expected reach and success by a good margin!
While held back in some parts due to time constraints, this project holds a special place in my heart, both due the fact I owned it from the very conceptual begginings of it till the final product, and as a proof that we can tackle big, ambitious projects in relatively small deadlines by having good planning, knowing your tools, and above all: Working smart.
